Family Outings at VIRginia International Raceway!
We try to do one last, fun, family event before school starts back. Just the five of us.. no friends, few distractions. We’ve done the foothills and Carowinds as well as a few others and this year, we’re heading to VIR to watch the brand new TUDOR United SportsCar Championship Series! The Rooster isn’t a NASCAR fan so when I told him they’d added the new series, he was all for it! They’ve graciously given me TWO tickets to give away, so read the news and find out how to win them at the bottom of the post!
Calling all racing fans! VIRginia International Raceway is one of America’s premier road courses, offering professional and amateur racing for modern and vintage classes while providing contemporary resort amenities. A prominent test facility for the automotive industry, VIR has the distinction of being named one of the top six courses in North America by Car & Driver Magazine, and southern roots and hospitality make it one of the friendliest. Conveniently located at the Virginia/North Carolina border, VIR is just a short trip from Richmond. With complementary amenities such as lodging, dining, a spa, an exclusive driver’s club, karting, off-road racing, skeet shooting, skid pad and more, VIR truly has something for everyone. Kids 12 and under are also free to all events so it’s the perfect family outing!
VIR has two of its biggest races of the season coming up – the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Biscuitville 125 this Saturday, Aug. 16 and the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship Series Aug. 22-24. The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East is NASCAR’s top developmental league and will feature young NASCAR stars that will soon become household names. The TUDOR United SportsCar Championship is one of the world’s premier sports car racing series featuring some of the most technologically advanced racing cars in the world. The three-day event includes several exciting races, including the weekend’s main race, the Oak Tree Grand Prix, Aug. 24 at 4:05 p.m.
The Oak Tree Grand Prix will take place on VIR’s historic full course, which is 3.27 miles with 17 turns and 130 feet of elevation changes. Drivers top speeds of 190 miles per hour during the nearly three-hour race that includes the “climbing esses,” a section of the course considered by many race drivers as one of the most challenging and intimidating in North America.
And VIR is giving away two tickets to the Oak Tree Grand Prix to one of our readers!
Enter the giveaway to win two tickets to the Oak Tree Grand Prix on Sunday, Aug. 24 (valued at $70 each) or purchase tickets to either (or both!) race(s) here: http://virnow.com/events/
The tickets are for next Sunday, August 24th and all you have to do to be eligible is leave a comment and tell me what your favorite “end of summer” thing to do as a family is! I’ll pick one winner on Wednesday the 20th so you’ll have time to plan your day!
The best part of closing out a summer is heading down to a beach (pick one – we have our favorites – Sunset, Wrightsville, Emerald Isle, the list is endless) for some family relaxation, body surfing, sightseeing; and, of course, seafood buffets!
My favorite family end of summer bang is a big barbecue with family and friends. It doesn’t matter if its on the beach or near the pool, one last hangout with the people closet to you is needed. I wouldn’t mind if the last thing I do for the summer is visit to beautiful VIR. Been there for the ALMS races in 2012 and 2013 and had the best time. Whoever wins the tickets will have a BLAST!
