Newest Netflix Series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Netflix has teamed with the one and only Tina Fey!! (along with Richard Carlock) for their latest original programming, the unbreakable kimmy schmidt is a new series on netflix from Tina FeyUnbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and the results are exactly what you hope for and expect from the Queen of funny.

Let’s go on a time traveling experience. Go with me alllllll the way back to before you had kids. Maybe even before you were married. Remember when you and your girlfriends would sit around and promise each other to never, ever let husbands and kids stand in the way of friendship? Sure things will change ‘just a little’ but you would always make time for each other and yourselves.

Flash forward ten years and you realize what load of malarkey THAT promise was. In a good year if you can pull yourself together enough to swap your yoga pants out for skinny jeans leggings and a cute tunic from Target more than once, it’s a major feat. We didn’t mean for it to happen but just the day-to-day happenings with family, work and other things it’s really hard to make time for ourselves and the next thing we know, it’s 10 years later and we realize we’ve been living under a rock.

Which is the premise of the Netflix’s newest show – Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt!

After living in a cult for fifteen years, Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) decides to reclaim her life and start over in New York City. Armed with just a backpack, light-up sneakers, and a couple of way-past-due library books, she’s ready to take on a world she didn’t even think existed anymore. Wide-eyed but resilient, nothing is going to stand in her way. She quickly finds a new job (working for 30 Rock‘s Jane Krakowski), a new roommate (Tituss Burgess, 30 Rock), and a new beginning.

Check out the official trailer for the show:

Emmy Award-winning actress Carol Kane plays Kimmy’s landlord, Lilian, a woman Fey describes as “the quintessential New York weirdo. She’s someone who’s lived here forever, has opinions about everything – and it’s never the opinion that you expect.”

One of my favorites, Jane Krakowski portrays a wealthy, out-of-touch mother (Jacqueline,) who hires Kimmy to ensure her son and stepdaughter stay out of trouble.

Other characters include the three “Indiana Mole Women” who shared an underground bunker with Kimmy; a handsome tutor who catches Kimmy’s eye; and Jacqueline’s moody teen stepdaughter, who is highly suspicious of Kimmy’s backstory.

The show’s first season will highlight everything from Kimmy’s ignorance of modern slang and technology – she’s never seen an iPhone, for instance – to her inexperience with adult relationships. (Almost everything she knows about the grownup world comes from reading the Baby-Sitters Club book series.)

There are 13, 30-minute episodes in the first season and you can’t help but fall in love with the innocence and genuineness of Kimmy and her cast of mis-fits.. cheering them on to survive and succeed in a world who doesn’t understand them anymore than they understand the world.

Love this new series from Netflix and considering my SOA binge watching of late, it’s a nice, refreshing change to watch such a cute show. And what better reason to call those girlfriends you knew so long ago… now you can ALL come out of hiding and get your lives back!

We’re big fans and long-time customers of Netflix and I am proud to be a member of the Netflix StreamTeam. I received a Netflix subscription and a streaming device in return for posting Netflix updates and reviews. Of course, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
