School’s Out for Summer? Not to Worry!

Well…. here we are solidly into summer break. Our last day of school was ‘only’ 3 weeks ago but already school is seemingly a distant memory. While I firmly believe that kids need to have a bit of a mental break once school is done, I also think that break can’t be for the entire 10 weeks. Usually by the summer streaming with netflix3rd week of July, I’m looking for ways to stimulate their minds at least a little bit during the day.

And, like every other kid, they fight me tooth and nail.

So, what’s the compromise? Apparently, the team at Netflix is on the same wave length as me (and other parents) because they’re making sure that we know about some great shows our older kids can stream that will not just entertain them, it will get the ol’ noggins working. Here are some of the titles they have for the teens and tweens (and moms and dads!!):

1. Lewis & Clark: The Journey Out West
2. Walking with Dinosaurs
3. Secret Yellowstone
4. The Blue Planet
5. When We Left Earth: The NASA Missions

Not to leave the younger kids out, Netflix has great options for them such as:

1. The Great Mouse Detective
2. Busytown Mysteries
3. LeapFrog: Math Adventures to the Moon
4. Turtle: The Incredible Journey
5. The Magic School Bus

I’m willing to bet that your older ones will get something out of those last five as well… even if it’s just a trip down memory lane!

Similar -   The Life of the Wife of a Pilot

While we can’t promise they’ll earn straight A’s watching these shows, you can at least feel a little bit better knowing that wedged in between endless streaming of all the other great shows on Netflix, these options will get them thinking. And they won’t even realize it!

What’s your favorite way to keep the brains engaged over the summer months?
